Letterforms

As a personal experiment, I’ve taken a stab at creating Roman letters by hand. I’m kind of sucked into this sort of thing easily, and typically to no benefit, but this time I think I’ve really come to understand something about type that I didn’t know before. There’s a certain sensitivity that is gained for certain characteristics of the letterform. What makes a serif, how the proportions matter, etc…

Hopefully, I’ll have something more intelligent to write about this soon.

For now, here are some sketches.

Nicely done. Are you referencing Durer’s letterforms by chance or are you going back further toward Trajan’s column? I like how you drew the letterforms and then added color. It sets them off nicely from the penciled notes.
